Biography
Dr. Mehdi Golshani was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1939. He received his B.S. in Physics from Tehran University and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1969, with specialization in particle physics. In 1970, he joined Sharif University of Technology in Tehran and served as the chairman of the Physics Department during 1973-1975 and 1987-1989 and as the vice chancellor of that university during1979-1981. Since 1991, he has been the distinguished professor of physics there. He founded the Faculty of the Philosophy of Science at Sharif University of Technology in 1995, and has been its chairman since then. He was the head of the Department of Basic Sciences at the Iranian Academy of Sciences during 1990-2000 and was the director of the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies in Tehran from 1993 to 2009 . Golshani received a John Templeton Award for Science and Religion Course Program in 1995.
Golshani's present research activity is concentrated on foundational problems in physics, quantum mechanics and cosmology, philosophical aspects of physics, philosophy of science and theology. Among his recent books are The Holy Qur'an and the Sciences of Nature (1997), From Physics to Metaphysics (1997) , Can Science Dispense with Religion? (2002, editor), and Issues in Science and Religion ( 2004).
