Biography
Lois Lee is Senior Lecturer in Secular Studies at the University of Kent. Her main research interests are in sociological and interdisciplinary approaches to values, ethics and the existential, particularly in relation to modernisation processes and with an empirical focus on atheism, nonreligion and secularism. Her work also engages extensively with questions around the role of religious and nonreligious worldviews in public life and policy.
She was PI of the Scientific Study of Nonreligious Belief project (UCL 2015-2016, John Templeton Foundation) and the Understanding Unbelief research programme (University of Kent 2017-2021, John Templeton Foundation), and is co-PI of the Explaining Atheism research programme (QUB 2022-2024). She was founding director of the Nonreligion and Secularity Research Network and the journal Secularism and Nonreligion.
