Biography
I am a Lecturer in Comparative Religion and Humanities at California State University, Chico. I also co-founded Science for the Church, a science-religion nonprofit. I am ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and serve as associate pastor at Bidwell Presbyterian Church in Chico. I've written eight books, most recently Science and Religions in America: A New Look (Routledge, 2023). After my B.A. at U.C. Berkeley, I received an M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and then a Ph.D. in systematic and philosophical theology at the Graduate Theological Union. I serve or have served on advisory councils for BioLogos; the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences; Sinai and Synapses; the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion; and the Oxford Interfaith Forum. My wife, Laura, and I live in Chico, California and have two emerging adult daughters. I love to drum, and I also enjoy biking, reading, writing, travel, and drinking good beer and coffee (though not at the same time).
