Biography

Roberto Covolan was the founding president of the ABC² (Associação Brasileira de Cristãos na Ciência – Brazilian Association of Christians in Science) and is the current president of the Academia ABC², the educational branch of the ABC².

Dr. Covolan is a physicist who spent most of his academic career at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. Much of his scientific activities have focused on elementary particle physics and cosmic radiation research. In 2000, he started working at the interface between physics and medicine, mainly conducting in vivo studies on brain dynamics. He implemented a BSc program in medical physics at Unicamp in 2003. In 2005, he created the Neurophysics Group at Unicamp's Physics Institute. He and a group of colleagues launched the CInAPCe project, a research program to promote inter-institutional cooperation on brain research involving five university centers in the State of São Paulo. In 2010, in collaboration with researchers from four other institutions, he launched DesTINe (Development of Information Technologies for Neurology), a project in assistive technologies funded by FINEP (Brazilian governmental agency). Dr. Covolan is the former vice president of the Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology – BRAINN.

In November 2016, during the First National Conference of Christians in Science, held in São Paulo, the ABC² was officially created with financial support from TWCF (Templeton World Charity Foundation) through the project "ABC²: Proposal for Establishment and Full Implementation of the Brazilian Association of Christians in Science". Dr. Covolan was elected the founding president, a position he held for four consecutive years. Currently, Dr. Covolan is the president of Academia ABC² and editor of the digital magazine Unus Mundus (https://unusmundus.academiaabc2.org.br/).
