Biography

Professor Kvasz graduated in mathematics at the Comenius University in Bratislava in 1986. After the changes of the year 1989 he started his graduate studies in philosophy at Comenius University with Prof. Miroslav Marcelli. In 1995 he received his PhD in philosophy of science.
Since 1986 he has been employed at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Comenius University, Bratislava as a lecturer. He read a course on history and philosophy of mathematics. In 1999 he became a reader. In 2007 he moved to Prague where in 2010 he became full professor at the Department of mathematics and mathematics education of the Pedagogical faculty of Charles University.
In 1993 he won the Herder Scholarship and spent the academic year 1993/94 at the University of Vienna. In 1995 he won the Masaryk Scholarship of the University of London and spent the academic year 1995/96 at King's College London with Prof. Donald Gillies. In 1997 he won the Fulbright Scholarship and spent the summer term of the academic year 1998/99 at the University of California at Berkeley with Prof. Paolo Mancosu. In 2000 he won the Humboldt Scholarship and spent the years 2001 and 2002 at the Technical University in Berlin with Prof. Eberhard Knobloch.
In July 2005 he won a research grant in the framework of the project Global Perspectives on Science and Spirituality (GPSS), sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation.
In 2011 he was offered the prestigious Jan Evangelista Purkine Fellowship in the field of philosophy, by the Czech Academy of Sciences.
In March 2011 his book Patterns of Change won the Fernando Gil International Prize for the Philosophy of Science.
