Michael Spezio is Associate Professor of Psychology, Data Science, and Neuroscience at Scripps College, Claremont, California. His research spans social and affective neuroscience, AI ethics and production architecture, psychological measurement, and science-religion methodology.

Biography

Michael Spezio is Associate Professor of Psychology, Data Science, and Neuroscience at Scripps College. His current work focuses on the cognitive science of mindful moral action, including a focus on cooperation, empathy, and theory of mind; AI production architecture and justice (Justice by Design, under contract, CRC Press / Taylor & Francis); the methodology of theological engagement with psychological science (PATH: Publicly Accessible Theology for Human Flourishing); and the construct validity of measures used in science-religion research. He co-designed and directed the cross-training program in Theological Engagement of Psychological Science for Theologies of Thriving at the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton, funded by the John Templeton Foundation. He serves on the editorial board of Philosophy, Theology and the Sciences (Mohr Siebeck). His research spans AI and AI Ethics & Justice, cognitive science, social neuroscience, affective neuroscience, applied cognitive neuroscience, and religion and science, with a particular focus on transdisciplinary approaches to human moral action, human freedom, and religious experience.
