Biography

Dr. KANG Phee Seng (alias JIANG Pisheng) is Director of the Centre for Sino-Christian Studies (CSCS) and Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Hong Kong Baptist University and Founding Director of the Quest Institute. He is a theologian and a scientist.
He has for the past 15 years participated in the Reformed-Orthodox Theological Dialogue, representing the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in Geneva. He is founding member of the Global Network for Public Theology in Princeton. He is recipient of the CTNS/SRCP Science and Religion Course Award (2001) and the Templeton Global Perspectives on Science and Spiritualities Award (2005). He delivered the K. C. Wong Education Foundation Lectures in Fudan University, Shanghai in 2001 and the Dharma Drum Humanities Lectures at Tsinghua University, Beijing in 2006.
He is Visiting Professor at Peking University and Research Fellow of the Institute of World Religions at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Center for Religion and Morality at Tsinghua University and the Center for Science and Social Studies at Peking University.
He is Consulting Editor for Scottish Journal of Theology (Cambridge University Press), Theology and Science (Berkeley), Regent Chinese Journal (Vancouver), Journal for the Study of Christianity and Culture (Beijing), China Graduate School of Theology Journal (Hong Kong) and Quest: An Interdisciplinary Journal for Asian Christian Scholars (Chinese University of Hong Kong Press, Hong Kong). He is Consultant to the "Revised Chinese Union Bible", Hong Kong Bible Society and was Regional Director of Science and Religion Course Program, CTNS, Berkeley and Consultant to "Truth in the Test Tube" (Mandarin Program), Trans World Radio.
In 2002, he led a group of distinguished US scholars to China for a lecture tour, initiating the first public dialogue between eminent Chinese scientists and religious studies scholars. In 2006, he initiated and organized the highest level of east-west dialogue between science and religion involving John Polkinghorne KBE FRS and Yang Chen Ning, the Chinese Nobel laureate in physics. He also nominated John Polkinghorne for the Hong Kong Baptist University's Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa, in the same year.
He has published major articles in the fields of systematic and historical theology, science and religion, Christian social ethics, and philosophy of religion. He co-edited Christian Thoughts and the 21st Century (Beijing, 2001), The University and Christian Studies (Hong Kong, 2002), Bridging Science and Religion (Beijing, 2002, 2006; Hong Kong, 2003), Brücken bauen: Naturwissenschaft und Religion (Göttingen: V&R, 2006), and others. The Bridging Science and Religion Series, co-edited with Ted Peters and Gaymon Bennett, has since May 2002 grown into 9 volumes in six languages.
The Centre of Sino-Christian Studies is Founding Member of Global Network of Theology, Religious and Christian Studies in Heidelberg.
