Biography

Professor Roger Trigg studied Philosophy at New College, Oxford, where he obtained both his undergraduate degree and doctorate. He is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England, and is now based in the Ian Ramsey Centre, University of Oxford where he co-directed the 'Cognition, Religion and Theology Project' a major interdisciplinary research programme funded by the John Templeton Foundation. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre. He is the author of many books, including 'Rationality and Science' (Blackwell, 1993); 'Rationality and Religion' (Blackwell, 1998); 'Ideas of Human Nature' (2nd edition, Blackwell 1999); and 'Understanding Social Science' (Blackwell 2nd edition, 2001), 'Philosophy Matters' (Blackwell, 2002) and 'Morality Matters', Blackwell (2005). His most recent books include  'Religion in Public Life' (Oxford University Press, 2007), and 'Equality, Freedom and Religion' (Oxford University Press, 2012), and 'Religious Diversity:Philosophical and Political Dimensions' ( Cambridge University Press, 2014). He is also the author of 'Beyond Matter: Why Science Need Metaphysics (Templeton Press, 2015).

In 1997 he was the Stanton Lecturer in the Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cambridge. He is joint editor of the international series, published by Ashgate, of monographs on science and religion. He is a member of many learned societies, a past President of the Mind Association, Founding President of the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion, and President (2008-10) of the European Society for Philosophy of Religion.. He was the first President of the British Philosophical Association, and is a member of the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton, New Jersey. He has also been an Associate Scholar with the Religious Freedom Project, Berkley Center, Georgetown University, Wsahington D.C.
