Biography

Joshua M. Moritz, Ph.D. is adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of San Francisco, lecturer of philosophical theology and natural sciences at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, and Managing Editor of the journal Theology and Science. He is author of Science and Religion: Beyond Warfare and Toward Understanding (Anselm Academic, 2016), author of Human Uniqueness and the Image of God: Bridging Biology and Theology through the Hebrew Concept of Election (Pandora Press, 2017), co-editor (with Robert John Russell) of God's Providence and Randomness in Nature: Scientific and Theological Perspectives (Templeton Press, 2017) and co-editor (with Ted Peters and Martinez Hewlett) of Astrotheology: Science and Theology Meet ETI (Cascade Books, 2017). His research examines questions at the interface of philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, and philosophical theology. His current research includes issues arising from cosmology, evolutionary biology, and the doctrine of creation; implications of paleoanthropology for the doctrine of the imago Dei; the problem of theodicy in relation to evolution and animal suffering; and the doctrine of incarnation and the possibility of other inhabited worlds.
