Biography

Scott's research brings together posthumanist reflection with theological thought, specifically theological anthropology and questions about what it means to be human(e). His interdisciplinary work has explored the significance of Genesis creation stories in the context of cyborg technologies, which was the focus of his doctoral work and has been published by I. B. Tauris in 2018; and he has also explored broader questions about human-animal and human-technology relations. Recently, Scott completed a postdoctoral research project at the Lincoln Theological Institute, titled 'Living With and Loving Machines'. The project invited a re-examination of technologies as well as of theological traditions and beliefs by asking questions about love in our contemporary context, such as whether or not (and in what ways) we should love machines.

In addition to published work, Scott has taught widely on topics related to his research in Religions & Theology and also as part of the Liberal Arts programme that he is currently setting up at the University of Manchester. Scott has also given a number of public and schools workshops and talks based on his research into advanced technologies and social robotics.
