Dr Alexander Smith, Senior Leverhulme Research Fellow and Assistant Professor in Sociology at Warwick University UK, as well as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Sociology at Kansas University USA, is leading a project entitled ‘Science, Religion, and the Making of Publics in the UK and US’ supported by the Leverhulme Trust.

The project’s aims include studying how scientists and scientific knowledge are entangled in the framing of established political problems and the making of new political controversies, the way in which the conduct and findings of scientific research are challenged by various publics and how they are defended, and how controversies around science and technology are creating new democratic spaces, governance challenges and forms of public participation.

The project is supported until April 2016 as part of the larger Making Science Public project funded by the Trust and led by Nottingham University, UK.
